This promotion is a little hard to find. It is not displayed prominently on LEGO.com or on Target.com. I also visited my local Target store today and did not see any advertising of this promotion at all. In fact, the shelves were pretty bare. This hasn’t been that unusual lately, and whether this is because the LEGO sets are selling out or due to supply chain issues is unclear. However, this promotion does not start until August 1st so maybe that’s why there was no advertising yet.

Click where it says “Complete” and this box will popup with more detailed instructions. Select the photo of the receipt and submit!

This is a great promotion to be able to earn LEGO VIP Points on the Target exclusive LEGO sets. Additionally, even though the LEGO Collection x Target has been retired, you can still pick up the LEGO Collection x Target Art Project and LEGO Collection x Target Minifigure Astronaut Plush. The LEGO Group announces a brand new addition to the LEGO Super Mario theme. LEGO 71411 Super Mario The Mighty Bowser is the biggest Bowser set to date. This King of the Koopas weighs in at over 2,800 pieces.

Nintendo and the LEGO Group first partnered in 2020. The LEGO Super Mario sets are loved by adult and kid fans alike. This newest set is perfect for building, display, and/or play. Furthermore, let’s take a look at some of the amazing features.

Packaging

LEGO Bowser is perfect for display on the brick-built battle platform. Notice the two towers for him to knock over. Additionally, some hidden elements are a POW Block and an Action Tag.

The 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group launches with LEGO CON 2022. If you weren’t able to catch it live, check out our recap for all of the exciting news. We saw new products, brands, activities, and special guests. Once again, LEGO CON was a free, virtual event in 2022. A two hour live show, it was hosted by Vick Hope, Joel McHale and Melvin Odoom.

90 Years of Play

Can you believe that the LEGO Group is celebrating its 90th anniversary? During this segment, two new LEGO ICONS sets are revealed. These are:

If you are an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) you will likely recognize similar sets from your childhood! Let’s take a look at each of these sets in more detail.

LEGO 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle

The set takes inspiration from the Legendary LEGO Castles sets we all grew up with. It includes over 4,500 pieces, 22 minifigures, hidden passageways, and a medieval drawbridge. Specifically, this set was influenced by LEGO 6080 King’s Castle from 1984. It will go on sale starting August 8, 2022 with early VIP access starting on August 3.

During the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the LEGO Group has revealed seven new sets. Three of these sets gain inspiration from Chinese culture and traditions. Additionally, four of these new sets are from the widely popular LEGO Super Mario theme. Furthermore, a new partnership with Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden was announced to help increase children’s interest in sustainability.

LEGO Monkie Kid Galactic Explorer, LEGO Lunar New Year Traditions, and LEGO Lunar New Year Ice Festival will be available in China and Asia Pacific markets on December 25, 2021. The LEGO Super Mario expansion sets will be available in China on January 18, 2022 and should be available in the U.S. around the same time (early 2022).

Now, let’s look at these sets in a bit more detail.

LEGO Lunar New Year 80108 Traditions

This set has six different modules to celebrate the six different customs of the Spring Festival. These modules consist of Spring Festival Shopping, making Good Luck decorations, watching the New Year countdown, exchanging ‘Hongbao’ red envelopes, and the God of Wealth. Additionally, this set can help children learn Chinese customs as each module is similar to a set of Chinese New Year pictures.

LEGO Lunar New Year 80109 Ice Festival

Watch a Spring Festival Ice Skating Park with this colorful and playful set. Children are celebrating the Chinese New Year with many different winter activities. A gorgeous ice sculpture fills the background. The children can be seen ice skating, playing ice hockey, sledding with penguins, and taking photos in the pavilion. A really cool tiger minifigure character is included for the coming Year of the Tiger in 2022.

LEGO Monkie Kid 80035 Galactic Explorer

First launching in May 2020, LEGO Monkie Kid is the first theme that gains its inspiration from a Chinese legend called ‘Journey to the West’. In this set, the Monkie Kid’s team goes on a space journey where they will battle two Shadow Monkeys. They must protect the green ring of fire that is kept in their spaceship. This is truly an amazing looking ship. It also includes a detachable lunar rover and launch pad.

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden

Another announcement was a new partnership between the LEGO Group and the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden. The goal is to increase children’s interest in sustainability. LEGO Build the Change activities will take place over the next three years for over 10,000 children.

Furthermore, the LEGO Braille Bricks program will be expanding into China due to an agreement with the China Association of the Blind and the China Braille Press. This program helps visually impaired children learn braille in creative and fun ways.

If you are a Super Mario 64 fan and haven’t picked up this set yet, then you are definitely going to want to watch the LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block Designer Video. This video features LEGO Designers Carl Merriam, Daire McCabe, and Benjamin Ma, and LEGO Graphic Designer Anthony Palamaro.

The designers take you through many of the unique features of this set. There were also two new LEGO elements created especially for it. One of the most challenging features of the design was how to make it a cube shape with enough space inside to hold all of the levels.

There are so many Easter Eggs hidden throughout this set. Inside Peach’s castle, there is a special square where LEGO Mario or LEGO Luigi can start the Easter Egg hunt. Some of these Easter Eggs are so secret, the designers were not able to talk about them on film. Also, there is a secret compartment hidden in this set, which the contents were not discussed.

Quickly following the announcement of the new LEGO Luigi’s Mansion sets, four new LEGO Super Mario Expansion sets have been revealed. Not many details are known about these sets. They are expected to be available in early 2022.

• 71398 LEGO Super Mario Dorrie’s Beachfront
• 71400 LEGO Super Mario Big Urchin Beach Ride

LEGO Super Mario 71396 Bowser Jr’s Clown Car

This version of the Junior Clown Car is the one that appears in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. As you can tell, Bowser Jr. has added boxing gloves to this one! We’ll have to wait and see if Bowser Jr. comes with this set. However, we can see that Mario has carjacked his Clown Car. A lit Bob-omb is also shown on the right.

LEGO Super Mario 71398 Dorrie’s Beachfront

This LEGO set features the character Dorrie, a friendly plesiosaur-like creature that helps Mario ride across water. Furthermore, it may refer to Dorrie’s appearance in New Super Mario Bros. where Mario rides on his back across the water to reach land. There are some really cool looking LEGO elements in this set including the water spouts, a sand castle, and coral.

LEGO Super Mario 71400 Big Urchin Beach Ride

This LEGO set features a Big Urchin as seen in the New Super Mario Bros. games. Since Big Urchin’s are only vulnerable to a Star, you can see a Super Star Block attached to the palm tree. That also looks like Dorrie there in the middle to help Mario get around the water surrounding the island. Two Cheep Cheeps appear at the beginning of the level, and there is also a Yellow Yoshi!

LEGO Super Mario 71402 Character Pack – Series 4

As with the other character packs, there are 10 LEGO Super Mario characters to collect. Notably, there is a cute penguin, who also makes an appearance in the LEGO 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block set!

The LEGO Group is getting into the Halloween spirit by announcing the new LEGO Super Mario Luigi’s Mansion subtheme. Further expanding on the partnership with the LEGO Group and Nintendo, these sets definitely give off Luigi’s Mansion 3 vibes for Nintendo Switch. Straight from the Luigi’s Mansion games, you can play with your favorite characters including King Boo, Boo, Polterpup, Bogmire, and Toad.

Three new sets are being revealed:

LEGO Super Mario 71397 Luigi’s Mansion Lab and Poltergust Expansion Set

Grab the Poltergust with Luigi and catch the Gold Ghost with this set. You can use the normal nozzle or attach the Strobulb. When you press on the button, the Poltergust activates.

When you catch the Gold Ghost you can collect a coin reward. Professor E. Gadd stands by to show you all of his potions. Don’t get poisoned or you will need to find the antidote!

LEGO Super Mario 71399 Luigi’s Mansion Entryway Expansion Set

Explore the gateway to the spooky Luigi’s Mansion with this set. Find the best way inside and determine how to defeat Bogmire.

You will want to find the Golden Bone to distract Polterpup. And don’t turn your back towards Boo!

LEGO Super Mario 71401 Luigi’s Mansion Haunt-and-Seek Expansion Set

This is the largest of the three sets, with many different features to explore! Battle ghosts and hunt for gems in the many rotating hallways.

With Christmas on the way, the new 2021 LEGO Advent Calendars are now available. There are already less than 70 days until December 1st, and time is running out to pick one of these up so you can fully enjoy all 24 days of gifts! With the ever increasing popularity of the LEGO Advent Calendar, you may have trouble finding one in stock. Our prediction is that these will be even more hard to find as we get closer to the beginning of December and into the holiday season. Luckily, Barnes & Noble has the LEGO Advent Calendars in stock!

Barnes & Noble is a great destination for LEGO, and you can sometimes get lucky with hard to find or even retired sets. I have recently found a retired LEGO Harry Potter set and retired LEGO Toy Story 4 set for some examples. However, I have not seen any sets on sale.

Barnes & Noble Has LEGO Advent Calendars

Today, I took a trip to my local Southern California Barnes & Noble. They have an entire display for Advent Calendars! As you can see, the LEGO ones are also included here. They were not in the normal LEGO section. Only LEGO 60303 City Advent Calendar and LEGO 76390 Harry Potter Advent Calendar are in stock. Maybe you will be more fortunate with your local Barnes & Noble store. It is definitely worth a try if you are having trouble locating these online or want to get them in person!

As we stated above, Barnes & Noble is a great store for your LEGO needs. They usually have a great selection of LEGO sets from many different themes. Unfortunately, they did not have any of the new Marvel Collectable Minifigures (CMF). Although, they do have this great display of LEGO Super Mario. Including, the new LEGO 71391 Bowser’s Airship Expansion Set.

Relive the fond memories of playing Nintendo 64 with this LEGO 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block set! This set has a very unique design. The outside is shaped like the ‘?’ mark block, and it folds out to reveal four different levels from the Super Mario 64 game!

It’s incredible that this set arrives twenty-five years after the initial launch of Super Mario 64 on Nintendo. (Are we that old already?) The four iconic levels with their characters include: Peach’s Castle; Bob-omb Battlefield; Cool, Cool Mountain; and Lethal Lava Trouble. As you can see here, there is a very unique mechanism that allows the set to unfold. This reveals the four different playing levels.

The block can also be folded back up for more compact display. You can choose to either display it with all the levels showing, or folded back up to truly keep the question of what might be inside!

The scale of the set is quite large! While closed, it measures over 7 in. high, wide and deep. It would be interesting to know how heavy it is!

A total 2,064 pieces makes for an exciting build. You can instantly recognize what game this is from. I like how the outside of the block does not have studs, except for the question mark part.

LEGO Super Mario 64 Buildable Levels

This set does not come with minifigures. However, there are a total of 10 microfigure characters. These classic LEGO Super Mario characters are Mario, Yoshi, Princess Peach, King Bob-omb, Chain Chomp, Big Bully, Mr. I, Lakitu, penguin, and baby penguin.

Given the scale of the levels, the microfigures make sense. Here at Peach’s Castle, Mario and the Princess fit in nicely.

Look out for the bombs in Bob-omb Battlefield! This was not one of my favorite levels growing up.

Cool, Cool Mountain has the penguin ready for a race!

LEGO Mario and Luigi Interactivity

A really awesome feature is that this set will also interact with the LEGO Mario and/or LEGO Luigi figures from the 71360 and/or 71387 Starter Course sets. Mario and Luigi can provoke unique sounds and music from the video game.

Mario and Luigi can also collect up to 10 hidden Power Stars that will uncover secret reactions. The set instructions include hints on how to find these Power Stars.

The LEGO Group press release reveals their commitment to the interactivity of all the Super Mario theme sets.

We know how much Super Mario fans have loved the LEGO Super Mario experience, and wanted to tap into even more elements of the traditional game play capturing the immersive play experience of Super Mario 64.
