Review: LEGO 76166 Avengers Tower Battle
In this review, we take a look at LEGO 76166 Avengers Tower Battle. This is an exciting Avengers Tower set, consisting of 5 floors, 7 minifigures (including 4 exclusive ones), interactive elements, and fun details. Black Widow and Iron Man battle Red Skull and his A.I.M. Agents with lots of different areas for play. I like how the tower opens up in the middle and has movable features, which allows for a lot more play time.
Packaging
The box features a nice picture on the front showing some of the interactive elements of this build. You can see the Marvel Avengers logo and a listing of all seven minifigures at the bottom.
The back of the box shows all of the different rooms, and highlights how the tower opens up in the middle, which greatly expands the ways in which this set can be played with.
Instructions
The instruction book is decently thick. It shows the same picture as on the front of the box. Nothing too out of the ordinary here.
Minifigures
Seven minifigures come with this set. Let’s start with the exclusive minifigures: Red Skull, Iron Man Tazer Armor, Iron Man Blazer Armor, and A.I.M. Agent – Neck Bracket on Front. The other minifigs are Black Widow, a regular A.I.M. Agent, and Iron Man.
I was unfamiliar with the Iron Man Blazer Armor and the Iron Man Tazer Armor. Let’s take a look at both of them more closely.
The Iron Man Blazer Armor is likely the Mark XXII Armor (codenamed Hot Rod). This armor appears in the Iron Man 3 movie and was destroyed by the Clean Slate Protocol. It was going to serve at the prototype for the War Machine Mark II Armor, and had no external weapons.
The Iron Man Tazer Armor is likely the Mark XXX Armor (codenamed Blue Steel). This armor also appears in Iron Man 3 and was destroyed by the Clean Slate Protocol. This armor was designed to last a long time before needing to be recharged. Another unique feature is that the arms have blades hidden inside them.
Here are the minifigures with all of their accessories. The trans-orange Power Bursts that you can see on the arms of the Blazer Armor and feet of both Blazer and Tazer are really well done and add a lot to the action. I wonder if Tazer’s lightning bolts are actually supposed to be the blades that you can see on the Mark XXX armor above. I added a couple of extra pieces to the feet of Tazer so he could stand up by himself. Notice Black Widow on her Sky Cycle, and the mini arc reactor. Red Skull looks ominous with his rocket launcher. The grappler attached to the A.I.M. agent is a lot of fun to use to scale the building.
Build
The finished tower is not that tall, but with 5 floors and 7 rooms there is a lot to build and a lot of detail was included. I really like the Avengers “A” symbol, and it is a great finishing touch to the tower.
What really makes this build is the ability to open up the tower. You are really able to see all of the rooms and enjoy the detail within. The Sky Cycle and arc reactor fit nicely at the bottom. The other rooms feature an armory, tech lab, jail, and game room.
The game room or TV room is one of my favorites. I love the little game controller sitting in the chair. The TV mounted above comes with two different stickers. You can choose to display a TV News Screen exclaiming “What is AIM?” or a video game showing Captain America battling Red Skull.
Peering through the windows of the tower, you can see even more detail. I don’t think the Infinity Gauntlet was ever inside the Avengers Tower in the MCU movies, but here it is in this set with two infinity stones.
Some of the other great features of this build are the moveable elements. Let’s take a look at them below. The left shows the collapsible balcony, which is a great way to drop unexpected enemies off of the tower. The right shows the exploding windows, which is a great way for the bad guys to enter the building.
Conclusion
Although smaller in scale then I was initially anticipating, the LEGO 76166 Avengers Tower Battle is an exciting build with unique minifigures, great details, and many different ways to play.
