To come to this conclusion, let’s first take a look at some of the current UCS sets and the LEGO Avengers Tower sets. This will show you why the I think the Avenger’s tower has been overlooked.

Current Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) LEGO Sets

We won’t list all of them here, but let’s consider some of the current UCS sets and see how the Avengers Tower might fit in.

In fact, except for the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier, there have been no other LEGO Marvel sets to receive the UCS treatment. Of note, this set made our list of the Top 10 Best LEGO Black Widow Sets.

Interestingly, most of the current Ultimate Collector Series LEGO Sets are from the Star Wars theme. These sets are truly impressive, such as the LEGO Star Wars 75313 UCS AT-AT. And who can forget about the best LEGO Millennium Falcons, LEGO Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon Ultimate Collector Series (2nd edition) and LEGO Star Wars 10179 Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon. Finally, we also have to mention the LEGO Star Wars 75252 UCS Imperial Star Destroyer. All four of these sets make the list of the largest LEGO sets ever and it’s not too surprising to see why. These UCS sets are epic in size and scale, and are awe-inspiring for any fans of the franchise.

Considering the popularity of the Marvel brand, you would think that the LEGO Group would consider this theme for more UCS sets. The LEGO 76178 Marvel Spider-Man Daily Bugle set comes close, but it is not an official UCS set. Furthermore, the Avengers Tower is an iconic backdrop for many moments in the Marvel films. Now, lets take a look at the current state of the Avengers Towers.

Current LEGO Avengers Tower Sets

Next, we will evaluate each tower in the order they were released.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76038 Attack on Avengers Tower

This set was released in 2015. The Avengers Tower suddenly comes under attack from the inside by Ultron while the Heroes are enjoying a celebration. In the lab, Evil Ultron Mark 1 has assembled and is bursting through the glass. Assist Thor and Iron Man in taking down Ultron Mark 1 and his two Iron Legion henchmen. Plan in the JARVIS control room. And in the sick bay, tend to injured Super Heroes. An Iron Legion is blowing out the ground-floor robot bay’s doors and windows. The Loki Scepter is missing from the analysis lab. Thor should be used to pursue him as you use the covert drone and stud shooters to take aim from the tower’s roof. Ultron Mark 1 must be stopped, and you must reclaim the Scepter. This build measures over 14 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 4 inches deep.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 40334 Avengers Tower

We have to wait all the way until 2019 for this next set. This tower was part of a gift with purchase (GWP) promotion that ran from 04/19/2019 to 05/02/2019. A qualifying purchase of $75 or more in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes products was required. This LEGO Avengers Tower commemorates Marvel Studios’ tenth anniversary. It includes a unique Iron Man collector minifigure and has 211 pieces. To be fair, this set is a gift with purchase so it is not meant to be that large. And the best part about the set is the collectable minifigure. However, this set does show that there is still untapped potential to create a really amazing Avengers Tower.

LEGO Marvel 76166 Avengers Tower Battle

In the following year, this set was then released in 2020. This set has superhero fight action both inside and outside the 5-story Marvel Avengers Tower. Iron Man and Black Widow face up against the diabolical Red Skull and his A.I.M. Agents in an epic battle. The building opens up to allow simple access to seven fantastic chambers where kids may have infinite imaginative adventures: blow out the energy core, bust open the jail, collapse the balcony, or launch a rocket strike. This famous New York tower is brimming with role-playing opportunities involving legendary Marvel heroes. At 17 inches tall, there are a variety of intriguing elements to explore. LEGO Marvel 76196 The Avengers Advent Calendar 2021 (Day 19) – Avengers Tower

This final build was released as part of the 2021 LEGO Marvel Advent Calendar. You can see the tower in the front row, the second from the left. Behind each of the calendar’s 24 doors are daily goodies for kids to discover during the month of December leading up to Christmas. There are 7 minifigures – Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain Marvel, Thanos, and Nick Fury. Additionally, there are intriguing products and wonderful Marvel Universe accessories that kids will enjoy, like as a Quinjet, Helicarrier, Spider-Man drone, Avengers Tower, and more. As the big day comes, kids may mix and match their presents to create a limitless number of amazing Super Hero experiences. You can use this amazing assortment of construction toys with other LEGO Marvel playsets to provide imaginative play opportunities that last all year.

Conclusion

As you can see, the LEGO Avengers Tower still has a lot of untapped potential. The best way to make it into a truly great set is by providing it with the Ultimate Collector Series label. This would allow it to achieve the appropriate size, scale, minifigures, playability, and uniqueness that this iconic Marvel building deserves.

While not an official LEGO set, the LEGO Group has provided instructions on how to build a LEGO star for their #BuildToGive campaign. Families can follow these instructions and modify them, or come up with their own designs. By building a star together and sharing it on social media using the hashtag #BuildToGive, the LEGO Group will donate a LEGO set to a child in need. LEGO BrickHeadz 40273 Thanksgiving Turkey

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without a brick-built LEGO Turkey! This set is now retired, but is super cute and would look great as a Thanksgiving table decoration. It features a detachable carrot, buildable garden scene, and pumpkin. Additionally, the baseplate comes with a really cool seasonal calendar. Combine it with other popular BrickHeadz character sets for even more fun!

LEGO 40261 Thanksgiving Harvest

As a 2017 holiday seasonal set, it is now retired, but is one of our favorites for Thanksgiving. It features a harvest setting, two minifigure characters, a Thanksgiving turkey, carriage, bird, scarecrow, and an autumn tree. The buildable vegetable garden and fall accessories are so cute!

LEGO Creator Expert 10292 The Friends Apartments

It is not officially classified as a Thanksgiving set, but The Friends Apartments definitely could be! Check out what is on Monica’s kitchen table: nothing other than a Thanksgiving turkey!

Rebuild season 5, episode 8 “The One With All The Thanksgivings” from Friends! The Thanksgiving turkey ended up on both Joey and Monica’s heads in this episode. This would be a really fun build to play out on Thanksgiving Day.

As a lifelong fan of LEGO, I suppose I have always known the correct way to refer to LEGO bricks. I never remember myself calling them “Legos” as a kid. Nobody ever told me the correct way to say it, but I guess I just picked it up from the packaging, LEGO magazine, or advertisements. Of course, writing a LEGO blog, I do my best to refer to LEGO sets and LEGO bricks in the correct manner. Recently, we have seen some very prominent news outlets using the plural form of LEGO incorrectly.

Yes, there is a proper way to refer to more than one LEGO set, and it is not “LEGOs”, or “Lego.” The LEGO Group is very clear on this and has provided guidance. One might assume that there are not true Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) writing for these large media outlets, or they would know how to use the LEGO grammar correctly!

How Do You Say the Plural Form of LEGO Correctly?

Let’s take a look at the evidence from The LEGO Group on how to refer to their wonderful products.

First, there is this great tweet from @pjohanneson asking in a Twitter poll what is the correct plural form of LEGO. Almost 84% of the respondents got it right! In case there was any doubt left in anyone’s mind, The LEGO Group also responded to the tweet!

LEGO is always an adjective. So LEGO bricks, LEGO elements, LEGO sets, etc. Never, ever “legos.”

Well, there you have it! Debate solved, right? We wish it was that easy! Apparently, not everyone has read this tweet.

Fair Play Policy

The official guidance on how to use copyrights and trademarks can be found in The LEGO Group’s Fair Play Policy. Specifically, see the section titled “Proper Use of the LEGO Trademark on a Web Site.” Here we have summarized the main points.

• LEGO should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun.
• You should never say, “I am going to build with LEGOs.” You should say, “I am going to build with LEGO bricks.”
• You cannot use LEGO in a domain name. That’s why you see LEGO blogs and fan sites usually have the word “brick” in the domain name.

Fair Play Brochure

Furthermore, if that wasn’t clear enough, The LEGO Group provides even more guidance in their Fair Play Brochure. Here are some of the main clarifications.

• LEGO should always be written in all capital letters.
• A noun should always be used after LEGO, such as LEGO sets or LEGO toys.
• Do not add a possessive “s”, plural “s”, or hyphen, such as LEGO’s new releases, play with my LEGOs, or LEGO-sets.

We definitely see LEGO written like “Lego” without all caps, in addition to the plural form of LEGO being used incorrectly.

We hope this post has helped provide some clarification. Now, when you read news or blog articles, you won’t be able to stop spotting these incorrect usages!

One interesting way to sort through all of the many wonderful LEGO sets is by the number of bricks or pieces. In this post, we take a look at the largest LEGO sets of all time. The order of this list has changed several times over the last couple of years, most recently with the addition of the LEGO Titanic and the LEGO AT-AT. This list is sorted by the number of pieces, not by the overall size of the built set. We will continue to update this list as bigger and bigger sets are released!

1. LEGO Art 31203 World Map – 11,695 pieces

LEGO Art 31203 World Map is the currently the largest LEGO set at 11,695 pieces. This massive set allows you to build 1 of 3 unique combinations of the world map. Relax as you build with the included soundtrack.

2. LEGO Creator Expert 10294 Titanic – 9,090 pieces

A recent addition to this list in the second largest LEGO set spot is LEGO Creator Expert 10294 Titanic at 9,090 pieces. It is incredibly detailed and will appeal to all Star Wars fans with the ability to choose between the classic or sequel crewmembers. This set is also #1 on our list of the Top 10 Best LEGO Millennium Falcon sets. Furthermore, it is also the most expensive LEGO set ever.

5. LEGO Star Wars 75313 UCS AT-AT – 6,785 pieces

The newest addition to the list and another Star Wars UCS set is LEGO Star Wars 75313 UCS AT-AT with 6,785 pieces. Not only is it the fifth largest LEGO set, it is also tied for the most expensive with the UCS Millennium Falcon above. Completing our list at the fourteenth largest is LEGO Ghostbusters 75827 Firehouse Headquarters that has 4,634 pieces. Fans of the 1984 Ghostbusters movie will love this three story model, 9 minifigures, and ghosts! Pair this with LEGO 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1 vehicle to make it a part of the best LEGO Halloween sets.

It is fascinating to see how the brick count and size of the biggest LEGO sets have increased over the years. I wonder how long the number one position will last! It will be hard to top over 11,000 pieces, but we will have to wait and see what The LEGO Group has planned next?

From the moment we saw him in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda has stolen our hearts and has become a worldwide sensation. Even though he was initially referred to as “The Child” and then we found out his real name is Grogu, we still love to call him Baby Yoda (even though we really know that he is not, in fact, Yoda’s baby). LEGO 75299 Trouble on Tatooine

The LEGO Passport is not that well known, advertised, or talked about, but it is the best free souvenir to get from your visit to the LEGO store! Once you have the passport, you can then get it stamped from each LEGO store you visit. It is a lot of fun to visit different LEGO stores on your travels and get the passport stamped to remember your visit!

To obtain a passport, simply request one from a friendly employee at the LEGO store. They will stamp them upon request at each location you visit.

Inside the front cover it states:

The Secretary of The LEGO Stores hereby requests all whom it may concern to permit the citizens of LEGO named herein to pass without delay or hindrance and in case of need to give all lawful aid and protection.

The issuer is the LEGO Passport Agency, Enfield, CT. This is the location of one of the corporate offices in the US. There is also a place to put your name, date of issue, and signature.

The outside of the passport is made of thin cardboard, with paper pages within. It is not as durable as a real passport, and you wouldn’t want to let your kids get it wet or play with it unattended for a long time. LEGO does make a passport case, shown here to the left. It is made for a real passport, but it probably would hold the LEGO passport as well.

Passport Stamps

To get your passport stamped, simply ask an employee. As you can see, the stamps here are from Ontario and San Diego, California LEGO store locations. The designs for the stamps are very basic, with just a LEGO brick and the store location. I know it’s free, but it would be nice to see some more creative designs. However, it is still fun to get it stamped and look back and see which stores you have been to.

Monthly Mini Model Build

According to the LEGO website, the monthly mini build program is no longer offered in stores. It is unclear whether this is only due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or if this program has closed indefinitely. LEGO does still offer the building instructions online for any prior monthly mini builds. The LEGO passport still has a section where you could get a stamp for completing each build. These pages still could be included because LEGO is planning on potentially bringing the program back, or they simply haven’t updated the passport design yet.

LEGO Life Events

As of 2017, the LEGO Club has changed its name to LEGO Life. You may have already noticed that the LEGO Club Magazine is now called the LEGO Life Magazine! The LEGO Stores host LEGO Life events monthly, which are posted on the LEGO Store Calendar online. The store calendar does mention getting your LEGO passport stamped during these events, so this section is likely still valid even though the name needs updating!

Most of the LEGO Stores are now open, including the Pick-a-Brick Wall! Recently, I was able to visit a few LEGO stores in the Southwestern United States, specifically at Fashion Show in Las Vegas, NV, Downtown Disney District at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, and Ontario Mills in Ontario, CA. Visiting the LEGO store during COVID-19 was safe and easy! You can read all about the precautions and strict safety measures the LEGO Group is taking on their COVID-19 update page.

The stores did a great job with taking precautions and were strict with enforcement. Make sure to check out my experience with the Pick-a-Brick Wall below!

Store Capacity is Limited

The number of guests the store allows inside at any given time is limited. There is plenty of space inside to keep everyone socially distanced.

There are waiting lines outside with social distancing markers. Every store had a wait, but it wasn’t very long. The staff also checks that everyone is wearing a mask before they allow the customers to enter the store.

The waiting line (or standby line) at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland (pictured above), was the longest and wrapped around the building to the right, about halfway to the restrooms. There was also a more fancy sign located here. I’m not sure why it is “good news” that there is a standby line, other than it’s a good thing to take COVID precautions. The line looked sort of intimidating, but it moved fast. There was also no time limit as to how long you could stay inside and I was able to browse at my leisure.

Mask Wearing is Required

All of the employees were wearing masks, and the customers are required to wear masks as well. There was an employee at the entrance to each store enforcing the mask requirement. Capacity was low enough inside each store to easily achieve social distancing.

Pick-a-Brick Wall is Open

I was surprised to see that the Pick-a-Brick Wall was open! I was able to take advantage of this with the COVID-19 precautions.

Is it called Pick-a-Brick or Pick & Build? Regardless, it was great to have this feature back! Check out the COVID-19 guidelines below.

A strict set of guidelines is posted in order to use the Pick-a-Brick wall. The employees did a good job of explaining the process. There was also a time limit of 15 minutes if there was someone waiting behind you to do their picking. You can see the rules on the clipboard in the picture above, and they are also copied below.

Pick & Build Guidelines

• Please keep your mask up above your nose and mouth at all times while shopping our assortment of bricks.
• Only one person/family at a time can access the wall. Limit 3 people for one family.
• We do have to limit the time you’re picking to 15 minutes so we have time to clean and prepare for the next family.
• Please do not put your hands in the wall, instead use these fancy amazing tongs or scooper, whichever you prefer they’re sanitized and ready for you.
• Here is some sanitizer for your hands before and after we start. If you are unable to reach something please let us know, we have additional tongs and scoopers we can use to get what you need.
• Finally, have fun!!

Above you can see the tongs and/or the scooper which are used to pick the bricks you need. Additionally, there was a box of disposable gloves which you can use. It is not mentioned in the rules, but it is also an option. I chose to use the gloves as I wanted to pick a few of each brick.

There are two different sizes of cups to choose from. It is a set price of $8.99 for the small, and $15.99 for the large, no matter how many bricks you can fit inside. Strategy is key to get the most for your money!

I decided to go with the large cup, and start by filling it with smaller pieces, as the bottom of the cup is not completely flat. Then, I placed the larger pieces in until it was almost full, then topped it off with smaller pieces, some of which can fall down into the cup to fill up the cracks. I was pretty satisfied with this strategy!

The LEGO Store at Downtown Disneyland had a nice selection of bricks on their wall. As you can see, there are also COVID-19 precautions in place, but the wall is open.

Play Tables and Other Events are Still Closed

Not surprisingly, building demos, events, and play tables are still closed. There is no word on when these might reopen.
