LEGO The Batman Sets Reveal Upcoming Movie Details
Four new LEGO The Batman sets are now available for pre-order on the LEGO shop online. They will ship on November 1, 2021. These sets are from the new The Batman movie, which is not set to release until March 4, 2022.
Similar to Marvel’s Eternals movie, the release date for The Batman was also delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though the movie premiere is delayed, the LEGO sets are still going to be available to purchase on schedule. This means that we can learn more about the upcoming movie from these LEGO sets!
On a side note, this is the same scenario with Eternals. To find out what we can learn about the movie from the LEGO Eternals sets, check out our overview.
Let’s take a look at each of these four LEGO The Batman sets in more detail.
LEGO The Batman 76179 Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit
This set features a motorcycle chase between Batman and Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman). Along with the two motorcycles, two minifigures, and accessories, you can also see a Batsignal in the background. It’s likely there will be a motorcycle chase scene with these two in the upcoming film.
The back of the box shows how this chase ends, with Batman winning of course. Catwoman appears to have stolen some valuable jewel. She has her hands up in surrender. Also, notice how the Batsignal is a glow in the dark element!
This looks like a fun build which likely plays out one of the movie scenes. I’m not sure how the Batsignal would fit into a motorcycle pursuit, but we will have to wait to find out. Batman comes with a Bruce Wayne minifigure head, so I wonder if Selina Kyle knows his true identity. The fact that she is referred to by her real name in this set and not Catwoman probably means Batman knows who she really is.
You can pre-order this set now for $14.99.
LEGO The Batman 76181 Batmobile: The Penguin Chase
This set features another chase scene, this time between Batman and the Penguin. From The Batman movie trailer, we know there is going to be a car chase scene between Penguin and Batman. However, only the Batmobile comes with this set. The Batmobile has a unique feature where it can fire one or both missiles when pressing on the hood of the car.
The back of the box shows a great view of the rear of the Batmobile and its engine. It also shows more detail of how to launch the missiles in the bottom left corner. The brake lights look like sticker elements.
The blue flame elements seem like a bit much. I don’t really understand how they are all shooting out of the front of the car. Maybe the movie will have this make more sense. One really neat feature is the Penguin’s rocket launcher that fires LEGO stud elements on their side. Another feature I don’t really understand is why a Bruce Wayne minifigure head is included. It wouldn’t make sense for Batman to reveal his true identity to the Penguin. I guess it would expand the playability of this set with no villains present.
This set is now available for pre-order at $29.99.
LEGO The Batman 76183 Batcave: The Riddler Face-off
Moving away from the vehicle chase scenes, this set give us a glimpse inside of The Batman film’s Batcave. Six minifigures come with this set: Batman, Selina Kyle, The Riddler, The Drifter, Alfred and Commissioner Gordon. One big spoiler from this LEGO set is that we may see Bruce Wayne’s other alter ego, the Drifter, in the film. Additionally, two villains appear to be running around the Batcave, so it will be interesting to see how they get there and how Batman plans on capturing them inside his hideout.
The back of the box shows that there are pieces with coded messages from The Riddler which are read with a special magnifying glass. There are a total of three of these messages. Check out the jail in the bottom left corner. The computers in the middle can move back and forth. If you combine this set with LEGO 76181 Batmobile: The Penguin Chase, the Batmobile can go up on the ramps for repairs.
As this film explores the time when Bruce Wayne has only recently become Batman, this looks like an early version of the Batcave. A nice amount of minifigures come with this set, but having another motorcycle here seems a bit redundant. You really are going to have to buy the Batmobile set as well to be able to use all of the Batcave’s features. With the dynamite element, it will be interesting to see if the plot includes The Riddler trying to destroy Batman’s headquarters.
Pre-order this set now for $79.99.
LEGO Technic 42127 THE BATMAN – BATMOBILE
From the 2022 The Batman movie, you can build the newest version of the iconic Batmobile. The most interesting feature of this build is that it includes two light bricks. One yellow and one red. You also notice some blue flame elements, but they make more sense in the build and are more subdued.
Here you can see where the two light bricks are put to use. The yellow light brick is used under the hood to light up the front grille. The red light brick is in the back to light up the transparent engine.
This build looks incredibly detailed and has many features including front steering, rear wheel differential, spinning flame, doors and hood that open, and pistons that move.
This set is now available for pre-order at $99.99.
LEGO sets don’t always stick close to the film plot, but we can make some educated guesses by looking at these LEGO The Batman sets. We will have to wait and see when the film comes out in 2022 how much we are able to recognize from these LEGO sets.
